Paul Wells is not a good salesman. He used to be. He used to be great. Before he found his wife in bed with his co-worker, Paul was a closer. But Paul's sales are slipping, and even worse, Dagny Green, a beautiful hot-shot sales rep, has been hired to replace him. Now, Paul has to outsell Dagny in order to keep his job, regain his self-respect and pull his life back together...if he doesn't fall in love with her first.

Outside Sales

> Minor workplace comedy for those who enjoy The Office.

Comedies that poke fun at the sometimes dull and frequently inane world of corporate culture—such as hit TV sitcom The Office and cult movie fave Office Space—are nothing new, and this 2006 feature from director Blayne Weaver doesn’t add much to the tried and true comedy subgenre. The silly premise follows top salesman Paul (Lucas Fleischer), whose wife is cheating on him with his co-worker (Weaver). Shortly thereafter, Paul’s sales and life go downhill. Perhaps the attractive new hire at the company, Dagny (Tricia O’Kelley), will fuel Paul’s competitive and romantic spirit. Outside Sales is derivative and made on a shoestring budget, but the performances are generally funny, and there’s nothing too offensive for those who enjoy office shenanigans.

Shelf Talk: Featured at a bunch of smaller film festivals, Outside Sales will see some action if it’s positioned in the category of the aforementioned Office titles. The film is the first feature produced by Weaver’s Secret Identity Productions, which is currently wrapping up the comedy Weather Girl. That film, which features much of the same cast as well as such bigger names as Mark Harmon and Blair Underwood, could help douse Outside Sales with some success.

Comedy, color, NR (mature themes, sexual situations, language), 90 min., DVD $14.99
Extras: crew commentary, deleted scenes, gag reel
Director: Blayne Weaver
