This live concert featuring the veteran rock 'n’ boogie trio looks great in its AVC MPEG-4-encoded 1080P presentation, as the pulsating stage lights and close-ups of bushy bandmates Billy F. Gibbons and Dusty Hill (and beardless drummer Frank Beard) and their shimmering instruments come through with crystal clarity. But it’s the audio options that are probably the most appealing feature, particularly to high-end buffs. The 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track and the LPCM 2.0 stereo track both carry the necessary oomph (and very clear oomph, at that) to serve up the guitar-driven enjoyment that ZZ Top has been delivering for nearly 40 years. Supplemental features reveal the guys playing poker, posing for a photo shoot and readying for their gig.
Shelf Talk: ZZ Top is currently in the middle of a North American tour that runs through mid-September, so awareness of the band and its live show will be high. Also, there appears to have been a substantial effort put into this disc’s sound options and quality, so be sure to talk it up with high-end audio lovers, in addition to the legions of fans the band has corralled over the past four decades.
