JUNE 16 | INDIE FILM GUIDE: First Run Features will form a new division for distribution to the educational/non-theatrical market, says president Seymour Wishman, in addition to distributing films to the theatrical, home video and TV markets.

The unit will operate through a new section of First Run’s Web site (firstrunfeatures.com). Heading the operation will be Nicole Baer, who has worked in the company’s theatrical department for two years and will now serve as director of educational sales.

Previously, First Run’s titles for the institutional market were distributed through First Run/Icarus Films, which had been majority-owned by First Run. Icarus Films recently bought out its share from First Run in order to operate as an independent company, including the formation of an Icarus label for sales to the retail home entertainment market.

First Run was founded in 1979 by a group of filmmakers to advance the distribution of independent film. It releases 10 to 12 films annually in theaters, along with about 50 DVDs. The latest releases from the company include For the Bible Tells Me So and Constantine’s Sword.
