Disney adds first digital copy to Burton's Nightmare

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 5/29/2008

MAY 29 | Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will launch its first embedded digital copy within the standard DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: Collector’s Edition on Aug. 26.

The studio has branded the included copy ‘Disneyfile,’ suggesting that future titles could also carry this feature.

Disney did not specify what sorts of devices will be compatible to play back the copies.

Additional bonus features in the Nightmare Before Christmas titles include an exclusive introduction by Burton on the Blu-ray edition.

Among the extras in both standard and Blu-ray sets are an original poem penned by Burton that is narrated by actor Christopher Lee and commentary from Burton, director Henry Selick and composer Danny Elfman. Several featurettes are also packed into the releases, including a tour of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride and a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Nightmare Before Christmas. Burton’s short film Vincent also is included.

Nightmare Before Christmas will street as a two-disc standard set ($32.99), one-disc Blu-ray ($39.99) and limited edition Ultimate Collector’s standard DVD set ($179.99). Prebook is July 15.
