MAY 20 | Independent distributor and film restorer Legend Films obtained the rights to release 32 Paramount Home Entertainment film titles on DVD, including movies starring Susan Sarandon, Martin Sheen and Richard Pryor.
San Diego-based Legend will release the titles over the next six weeks, starting on June 3 with 17 films, including Pryor’s Some Kind of Hero and Sarandon’s King of the Gypsies. On July 1, the company will release another 15 titles, including Baby It’s You starring Rosanna Arquette and the Sidney Lumet-directed Daniel, which stars Timothy Hutton and Ellen Barkin.
The titles are priced at $14.95 each (order now).
The agreement marks the first Legend has made with Viacom unit Paramount. Last year, Legend, founded in 2001, brought in former Warner Home Video executive Bob Pollack as president. Its previous releases include the Ed Wood cult classic Plan 9 From Outer Space and Roger Corman’s The Little Shop of Horrors.
“Legend Films combed the vaults to find these great film gems, all of which have never been released in North America on DVD,” said Pollack in a statement. “These strategically selected titles cross over many genres and feature enduring stars that will appeal to a broad range of film lovers.”
