Porchlight turns on Ocean Park indie film label

By Cindy Spielvogel -- Video Business, 5/12/2008

MAY 12 | Porchlight Home Entertainment is launching a new label, Ocean Park Home Entertainment, for independent films. The label will release films that “are innovative and quality entertainment that appeal to a broad and diverse demographic,” said Gary Jones, president of PHE.

“The Ocean Park label further expands Porchlight Home Entertainment’s reach into all genres of programming on DVD,” Jones said.

Porchlight also recently established its Inspire label for faith-based product. The company’s core family and entertainment titles are distributed under the Porchlight Home Entertainment name.

The first film Ocean Park will be Pope Dreams, which will be available Aug. 26 (prebook July 23; DVD $24.98). Winner of 11 film festival awards, Pope Dreams tells the story of a 19-year-old who wants his ill mother to meet the Pope before she dies. It stars Phillip Vaden, Marnette Patterson, Julie Hagerty, Stephen Tobolowsky and Noel Fisher.

The second release will be Outsourced, a 2007 theatrical release that will be released on DVD on Sept. 2 (prebook July 30; $24.98). Outsourced, which has won eight awards at film festivals, is a comedy about a man whose job is outsourced to India and he must travel there to train his replacement. It stars Josh Hamilton, Ayesha Dharker, Asif Basra and Matt Smith.
