Harry Potter, Transformers lead EMA nominations

By Cheryl Cheng -- Video Business, 5/6/2008

MAY 6 | The magic of Harry Potter and the strength of the Transformers helped the two films lead the nominations for Entertainment Merchants Assn.’s Home Entertainment Awards.

Warner Home Video’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been nominated for four categories: family title of the year, marketing campaign of the year, packaging campaign of the year and sell-through title of the year by a major studio. DreamWorks/Paramount Home Entertainment’s Transformers also has garnered four nominations: DVD extras of the year, high-definition titles of the year, marketing campaign of the year and sell-through title of the year by a major studio.

“The home entertainment industry has consistently delivered exceptional entertainment at affordable prices, which is why DVD remains the most popular way for Americans to view movies,” said EMA president Bo Andersen. “The outstanding content and diversity of DVD product is reflected in this year’s nominations, and we congratulate our nominees.”

This year’s Home Entertainment Awards has 100 nominees in 20 categories. Warner has the most nominations (18), followed by Paramount (16) and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment (13).

The Home Entertainment Awards will be held June 24 as part of EMA’s annual Home Media Expo, held June 24-26 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
