DEG plants first Green Media Summit

One-day event is intended to be the first in a series

By VB Staff -- Video Business, 2/1/2008 12:07:00 PM

FEB. 1 | The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) will present its first Green Media Summit April 2 at the Luxe Hotel in Los Angeles.

The one-day conference is intended to be the first in a series of events aimed at educating the studio and entertainment communities about environmentally friendly options for the delivery of digital entertainment media, according to DEG.

The meeting will be invitation only, with invitations extended to creative services, marketing and sales executives at studios and other companies, the DEG said. Reed Business Information, publisher of TWICE, Variety, Video Business and ContentAgenda.com is the event’s media partner.

“We need to make certain we deliver the content — be it physical or digital media — in an eco-friendly manner that is respectful of the environment,” said Bob Chapek, DEG chairman and Walt Disney Studios Worldwide Home Entertainment president. “Now, more than ever, we need to work together to find solutions that help us watchdog ourselves into making a cleaner, greener world.”

The event is being co-produced by the Entertainment Supply Chain Academy (ESCA), which will be developing the conference program in cooperation with title-sponsor Capgemini.

“The home entertainment community plans to accelerate its leadership in adopting environmental best practices and the Green Summit is where our industry will gather for the first time to exchange market intelligence and develop a collaborative game plan,” stated Amy Jo Smith, executive director, DEG.
