Jan. 25 | Special interest supplier and green goods purveyor Gaiam will begin using the fully recyclable Ecotray for a number of its health and lifestyle releases.

Gaiam is putting its discs into Ecotrays.
Developed by media packaging solutions provider Napco, the Ecotray system includes several distinct features. First, DVDs are contained in a double-walled box sized to the same dimensions as a standard DVD case. Second, the discs are held in place by Napco's patent-pending "Fiberlok hub," designed to hold up to extended use without collapsing or breaking. Also, Ecotray is produced from 100% recycled pulp paper and has been tested for its ability to withstand heat and humidity.
Gaiam's Mayo Clinic series, with 10 titles, will retail in the Ecotray packaging. Five new fitness releases from Gaiam on topics from yoga to Pilates also will be made available in Ecotray boxes.
According to Jerry Pearce, executive VP for Sparta, N.C.-based Napco, the company is offering complete services for Gaiam's releases, through pack-out, labeling and shipping.
