DEC. 14 | Samsung ran an ad in the Sunday New York Times promoting a $10 credit for CinemaNow downloads with the purchase of a Samsung P2 Portable Media player, which costs less than $200.
The ad, driven by Samsung, is likely to be one of many to come as manufacturers ramp up their product lines in the coming year to compete against Apple, CinemaNow CEO Curt Marvis said.
CinemaNow is embedded not only on Samsung’s P2 Player but on the Archos portable player, which has a Wi-Fi connection and a TV-connected cradle.
CinemaNow has partnered with Hewlett-Packard to provide a movie browsing and download service for the MediaSmart TV and launched a Web site for Microsoft’s Vista Media Center.
“The content is uniquely customized through each device. That same way iTunes works with iPod, we’re working to make CinemaNow to work with their hardware,” Marvis said.
