CinemaNow hires product marketing strategist

Focus on expansion to download for portable devices

By Ned Randolph -- Video Business, 11/26/2007

NOV. 27 | CinemaNow has appointed a 10-year veteran of product marketing to develop a marketing strategy for the online movie download service’s new effort to deliver titles across multiple platforms.

Ashley Woodworth will oversee the company's marketing initiatives, which are expanding from watching movies on personal computers to consumer electronics devices.

Earlier this month, CinemaNow announced a partnership with Samsung to provide movie titles on the Samsung P2 Portable Media Player. Users can purchase and download movies, TV shows and music videos at Samsung.CinemaNow.com for $1.99 to $19.95.

CinemaNow also is available on the Archos 500 series portable media player, HP Media Smart TV, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and EchoStar's Dish Network set-top box. Starting next year, it will be bundled with Sonic's Roxio Venue download application on computers with Microsoft's Vista operating system.

Woodworth will report directly to CEO Curt Marvis, the company said.

“Ashley has a great track record and brings a wealth of highly relevant experience to CinemaNow,” said  Marvis. “With her knowledge and passion for the company, I am looking forward to the direction and initiatives she will spearhead to further enhance our industry-leading position.”

Woodworth previously served as VP of product at Move Inc., an online network of Web sites for real estate search, finance and moving.
