Pocket Snails: Potty Adventure

By Mayna Bergmann -- Video Business, 11/26/2007

> Unintentionally funny instructional video may help the wee ones in their potty training.

Snail trio Gordon, Dale and Buttons of the Pocket Snails series are on hand to help their friend Jake and his little sister, Wendy, through the confusing world of using the potty in this third installment of the Pocket Snails series. As the snails tell Wendy, “When you get that feeling, it’s time to tell a grown up.” They then proceed in great detail—from identifying the potty (and how it’s different from the toilet) to washing up afterwards. It’s hard to make potty training cute, but these animated snails manage to do it. The content matter leaves little to the imagination, but some parents need all the help they can get through potty training, and the simple shapes, musical numbers and cute snails will certainly appeal to the 2-year-old set. Also, serious repetition, a pull-out “Potty Steps Map” and a slew of extras (including an encouragement scene and a blooper reel) will keep the kiddies entertained.

Shelf Talk: The first two DVDs in the Pocket Snails series won 20 different educational, parenting and graphic production awards (including a Learning Magazine 2007 Teachers’ Choice Award for the Family), which means Potty Adventure already has a built-in audience familiar with the product. Parents of toddlers who are unaware of the Pocket Snails titles are next in line to be made aware of this new entry.

Instructional, color, 30 min., NR (nothing offensive), DVD $14.95
Extras: sing-along songs, encouragement and congratulations scenes, blooper reel
Producer: Soaring Star Productions
First Run: DVD premiere
