NOV. 26 | The Entertainment Merchants Assn.’s Home Media Expo is getting a makeover for 2008, rolling out about a month earlier than usual on June 24-26 and at a new location, the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Previously known as the Video Software Dealers Assn. convention, EMA’s annual event has been slotted for June to better prepare attendees about DVD product hitting retail in the fourth quarter.
For the last few installments, EMA’s Home Media Expo, now going into its 27th year, has been held at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and Bellagio in Las Vegas. The most recent convention ran July 17-19 at the Venetian.
“An industry as exciting and leading edge as the home entertainment industry should hold its annual confab at an equally exciting and leading edge location, and the Palms fits the bill perfectly,” EMA president Bo Andersen said. “We are excited about expanding the show to include digital delivery as well as the latest new technologies and business models for home entertainment, while celebrating the phenomenal success of the DVD and the industry that brings home entertainment to the consumer.”
The date switch also moves Home Media Expo away from potentially conflicting with annual gaming convention E3, which ran July 11-13 this year. Since merging with gaming-centric Interactive Entertainment Merchants Assn. in 2006, EMA has been working to incorporate more game companies into its membership base.
