SanDisk product moves video downloads to TV

By Ned Randolph -- Video Business, 11/13/2007

SanDisk's TakeTV plugs into a TV to play downloaded video.

NOV. 13 | SanDisk's solution for getting downloads to the TV is now on sale.

With the Sansa TakeTV, users can drag drop video files, such as movie downloads, onto a USB flash drive then connect it straight to a TV through a cradle. The TakeTV comes with a remote control, which fastens onto the device as a cover when not in use.

SanDisk first announced the USB TV concept at CES in January.

"Sansa TakeTV is the most easy-to-use, straightforward solution for watching downloaded personal video content and other shows in the comfort of the living room,” said Daniel Schreiber, senior VP and general manager for SanDisk’s audio/video business unit. “No confusing wireless network setup, no wires running across the living room and no cumbersome burning of DVDs. Just use the Sansa TakeTV device to move your favorite video content over to your TV, and enjoy it on the big screen with family and friends.”

Available at SanDisk's Web site, Amazon.com and Buy.com, TakeTV comes in a 4GB model that hold about five hours of video for $99 and 8GB model for $149.

SanDisk also is launching Fanfare, a video downloading service with both free, ad-supported and for-pay content from CBS, Showtime and The Weather Channel.
