Redbox extends rental period

By Marcy Magiera -- Video Business, 10/29/2007

OCT. 29 | DVD kiosk operator Redbox is extending its rental return time to 9p.m. nationwide, from 7p.m.

The company charges $1 per night for rentals at its more than 4,000 kiosks in high-traffic retail locations including McDonald’s restaurants and supermarkets.

“A late meeting, soccer practice, dinner out—7p.m. is sometimes right in the middle of the day,” said Gary Lancina, VP of marketing for Redbox. “To better accommodate our consumers’ busy lives, Redbox is extending our return time to 9p.m. nationwide.”

Owned by Coinstar, McDonald’s and private investors, Redbox is the largest rental kiosk operator in the U.S. and the largest DVD rental retailer, by number of locations, in some of its markets.
