DEG forms European, North American alliance

Groups will share information globally

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 8/30/2007

AUG. 30 | The Digital Entertainment Group’s European and North American outposts are forming an alliance to share information globally.

Re-established earlier this year, DEG Europe will be providing info on its sales figures, industry developments and high-definition educational material.

One project that has already resulted from the DEG Europe and DEG North America partnership is the creation of the HDTV Guide. Recently adapted for the U.K. following its distribution at North American retailers, HDTV is targeted at consumers, educating them on such topics as how to properly connect equipment. This publication will soon spread to further European storefronts.

The guide can be accessed digitally from the DEG Europe Web site www.deg-europe.eu.

Going forward, DEG Europe and DEG North America hope to start regular face-to-face meetings.

“The DEG has seen that working together as an industry, we can advance the adoption and awareness of entertainment products by creating programs and initiatives for the trade,” said Amy Jo Smith, DEG executive director. “As we hope to transition consumers everywhere to a world of high-definition, we are delighted to work with our European counterparts to share ideas and leverage our collective expertise across borders.”

Others in the home entertainment industry are commending the DEG initiative.

“With this alliance between European and North American groups, DEG Europe is now in a position to provide useful tools that inform the consumer of how to maximize the high-definition experience,” said Yves Caillaud, senior VP at Warner Home Video EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa). “A close association is essential to the work we’re doing in Europe. In order to fully promote and communicate the benefits of the new high-definition products we need to be working with the right people, and the DEG has a wealth of experience that we can utilize moving forward.”
