Ratatouille served on DVD, Blu-ray Nov. 6

UPDATE: Disney's Lost also coming to high-def in fourth quarter

By Jennifer Netherby -- Video Business, 8/21/2007

AUG. 21 | Add one more star player to Blu-ray Disc’s fourth-quarter roster.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will serve up the Disney/Pixar production Ratatouille on DVD and Blu-ray Nov. 6, the same timeframe that the studio chose for Pixar blockbuster Cars last year.

This year, Disney will debut the Blu-ray version of Cars with Ratatouille on Blu-ray on Nov. 6.

The studio also will bow its blockbuster TV series Lost on Blu-ray, as well as DVD, on Dec. 11.

Ratatouille, the tale about a rat named Remy who longs to be a French chef despite his family’s objections, received roundly positive reviews and has grossed $197 million at the domestic box office since its June 29 release.

The special edition DVD will include deleted scenes, a conversation with director Brad Bird and master chef Thomas Keller and two animated shorts, including new short Your Friend the Rat.

The Blu-ray edition will contain all the extras on the DVD plus two Java interactive features: Gusteau’s Gourmet Game, in which players prepare a meal, and Cine-Explore, which lets users navigate behind-the-scenes of the production. The disc also includes additional deleted scenes and documentary shorts.

The prebook date is Sept. 25, and the movie will be priced at $29.99 on DVD and at $34.99 on Blu-ray.

The title joins Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Spider-Man 3 and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Live Free or Die Hard as summer theatrical blockbusters that will be released in high-def exclusively on Blu-ray in time for the holidays.

Rival HD DVD boasts exclusives on Paramount Home Entertainment’s Transformers, DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek the Third and Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Knocked Up. (See a full list of upcoming high-def releases.)
