Toshiba updates HD DVD players for Web features

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 6/29/2007

JUNE 29 | Just in time for the July 3 release of Blood Diamond on HD DVD, Toshiba is offering improved network connectivity for its second-generation players.

Warner Home Video’s Blood Diamond will boast the first Web-enabled bonus features for a high-definition title.

Toshiba is making the update available for models HD-XA2, HD-A20, HD-A2W and HD-D2. The firmware can be accessed at its Web site’s customer support section for downloading through the players’ Ethernet ports.

“Certain HD DVD discs may contain or have the capability of downloading studio-provided, Web-enabled network content,” states Toshiba’s upgrade instructions. “To minimize any potential capability and/or connectivity issues, before viewing such content, it is recommended that you perform the firmware update process.”
