Blockbuster adds bigger Blu-ray section online

JUNE 27 | Blockbuster has added a Blu-ray Disc area to Blockbuster.com.
The section lists more than 250 Blu-ray titles available for rent and features a guide to Blu-ray and a search function to find out which local stores carry the format.
The site contains a similar area for HD DVD, but it is not positioned as prominently.
Blockbuster announced last week it would expand Blu-ray to 1,700 stores but keep HD DVD contained to the original 250 test stores and online.
Blockbuster added the Blu-ray category to its Web site's main "Browse Movies" section in conjunction with the store rollout because it "could be of interest if subscribers are exchanging their online rentals at a participating store where they have the ability to exchange a Blu-ray DVD for another Blu-ray title," said Randy Hargrove, senior director of corporate communications for Blockbuster.
Customers can still access HD DVD titles by clicking on a specific movie title and then "All Editions" or can go through the "Collections" subhead under "Browse Movies," where HD DVD is listed as a category. They also can reach the HD DVD section through the new Blu-ray area.
