Download site launches with indie films

Movies on HungryFlix are offered DRM free so work on PSP, iPod

By Jennifer Netherby -- Video Business, 2/27/2007

FEB. 27 | Web start-up HungryFlix, www.hungryflix.com, has launched a beta site offering independent movie downloads for the Sony PlayStation Portable and Apple iPod.

HungryFlix launched with B-movie horror films from Tempe Video and is in talks with other independent suppliers and producers, HungryFlix head Brian Andrews said.

Films also can be uploaded by independent producers to be offered on the site. Filmmakers set their own prices and keep 60% of profits.

HungryFlix doesn’t include digital rights management on downloads, so users can view the content on multiple formats.

“The lack of DRM has been a concern with some producers, but for the most part, it is not a major road block,” Andrews said.
