DVDXpress offers Web reservations

Option lets customers go online to check availability of titles

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 9/1/2006

SEPT. 1 | Disc rental machine company DVDXpress has bowed an Internet reservation option.

Customers can go to the company’s site (www.dvdxpress.net) and check which discs are in stock at any DVDXpress machine, found primarily at regional grocers in the southeast and northeast.

Reserved movies will then be waiting for customers at the DVDXpress location selected.

There are 225 DVDXpress kiosks spread through various BI-LO, Food World, Bruno’s and Pathmark grocery outlets.

“Our retail partners asked us to come up with a way to make the rental process even faster and more convenient for movie renters,” DVDXpress chief marketing officer Arun Mathur said. “Now, with the ability to browse and reserve DVD titles via the Internet, DVDXpress kiosks will be able to serve more customers even faster.”

DVDXpress partners hope the online option will bring more foot traffic into their stores.

“This has the dual benefit of speeding up the rental process at the kiosk and providing certainty that a shopper’s favorite movie will be available when he or she makes the trip to the kiosk,” said John Symons, executive VP of sales and operations for BI-LO/Bruno’s.
