HBO takes Sopranos to HD DVD

Mob show is the studio's first high-def release

By Laurence Lerman -- Video Business, 8/9/2006

AUG. 9 | The Mob is coming to HD DVD.

HBO Video has set The Sopranos: Season 6, Part 1 as the studio’s first title to be released on the high-definition format.

It’s slated for release on Nov. 7 (prebook Oct. 3), the same day that the previously announced standard-definition DVD will be released.

The HD DVD version will carry a suggested retail price of $129.95; the standard disc is priced at $99.95, like previous DVD editions of the Emmy Award-winning show.

HBO plans to issue the title on Blu-ray Disc in 2007. Other season sets of The Sopranos also are planned for next year.
