Disney delivers pink slips

Layoffs affect all divisions, including home entertainment

By Jennifer Netherby -- Video Business, 7/26/2006

JULY 26 | Disney handed out pink slips Tuesday to the 20% of employees the company announced last week it would lay off as part of a studio restructuring.

Layoffs came across all studio divisions, including home entertainment. The studio wouldn’t comment on the layoffs or which parts of the studio were hardest hit. Among the losses was Buena Vista Motion Picture Group VP Karen Glass.

Last week, studio chairman Dick Cook announced the company would cut 650 workers worldwide, as it slims its movie release slate to 10 Disney films a year and two to three Touchstone films.

As part of the changes, Robert Chapek was promoted to head an expanded home entertainment division that will include all home entertainment platforms worldwide.
