JULY 19 | Walt Disney Studios has promoted Robert Chapek to head an expanded home entertainment division as part of a studio-wide restructuring announced Tuesday evening by studio chair Dick Cook. The new division will include all home entertainment platforms worldwide.

As part of the restructuring, aimed at refocusing the studio on Disney movies, the studio will cut 20% of its workforce, roughly 650 jobs, as it cuts back its movie release slate to 10 Disney films a year and two to three Touchstone films.

Disney is the No. 1 name in filmed entertainment around the world. It's the name on the door, it's what we do best, and when we do it right, not only do moviegoers of all ages benefit from the finest in quality entertainment, but it lifts the entire company as well,” Cook said.

Chapek will head the company’s new Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment division, overseeing worldwide distribution and marketing on all home entertainment platforms.

“Bob is an innovator in every sense of the word and has helped our studio achieve countless DVD successes, and that leadership will translate well into his new global responsibilities,” Cook said in a statement.

Oren Aviv has been named president of production for Walt Disney Pictures, the live-action side of the studio. Aviv handled marketing on some of the studio’s largest campaigns in recent years, including Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. He also served as chief creative officer, where he had the idea for National Treasure.

Aviv replaces Nina Jacobson, who will leave the company as part of the restructuring.

Mark Zoradi was named president of Walt Disney Motion Picture Group, overseeing distribution and marketing of all Disney and Touchstone movies worldwide.

Walt Disney Feature Animation, Pixar Studios, Miramax Films, Buena Vista Music Group and Buena Vista Theatrical Productions will not be affected.
