JULY 12 | LAS VEGAS—Sony Electronics and sister disc unit Sony Pictures Home Entertainment are jointly bowing Memory Stick packs that will enable PlayStation Portable users to access films from their computers. Consumers load an installer DVD, included in the offered 1GB or 2GB Memory Stick Duo Entertainment Packs, into personal computers. Next, consumers use a complimentary code located in each pack to unlock one of four Sony films, Hitch, S.W.A.T., The Grudge or XXX: State of the Union, to be transferred onto the Memory Stick. These movies transferred from the bundled installer DVD are viewable exclusively on the PSP. “Our new Memory Stick Entertainment Pack bundles fun with function,” said Mike Kahn, senior manager for Memory Stick Media at Sony Electronics. “This collaboration with Sony Pictures provides consumers with a quick, simple way to get a full-length movie onto their Memory Stick at no extra charge.” The 1GB and 2GB Memory Stick Entertainment Packs, with respective model names MSX-M1GSTEP and MEX-M2GSEP, will be available next month for about $60 and $100. “We had great success on the big screen with each of the movies offered in the Memory Stick Entertainment Pack,” said Mike Arrieta, senior VP of digital distribution and mobile entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. “We expect consumers to have renewed enjoyment from these movies on the go as we make them available on Memory Sticks for the PSP.”
