Supremacy gives HD DVD extra

Universal title first with features exclusive to high-def format

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 5/23/2006

MAY 23 | The Bourne Supremacy today became the first HD DVD title with interactive features exclusive to the format to hit stores.

The Universal Studios Home Entertainment action release was ranked at No. 325 on Amazon on its street day. The title carried an SRP of $34.98.

On June 6, Warner Home Video will release its first title with exclusive HD DVD interactive features, Constantine.

Like Universal's Supremacy, the Constantine disc will allow viewers to simultaneously watch interviews and other materials while the film is running. Users will not have to switch to a menu screen to access bonus features.

Warner is dubbing the technology In-Movie Experience.

While watching Constantine, viewers will be able to hear from director Francis Lawrence behind-the-scenes information on plot, stunts, characters and production.

Both studios' previous HD DVD releases have not contained any features that were unique from standard disc releases.

Warner also has said it will deliver HD DVD-exclusive features for Batman Begins and The Dukes of Hazzard. The titles are expected to bow soon, but no street dates have been set.

Also on June 6, Warner is rolling out a hybrid HD DVD and standard-definition DVD of Firewall, day and date with its standard-def DVD release. Firewall marks Warner’s second HD DVD and DVD Combo, following Rumor Has It on May 9.

Warner is additionally bowing catalog title The Perfect Storm on HD DVD on June 6.

The bonus features on the HD DVD Firewall and Perfect Storm releases will match their standard-def versions.

Constantine and The Perfect Storm will be priced at $28.99 apiece, with Firewall at $39.99.
