The Dukes of Hazzard: Unrated

By Jamie Clark -- Video Business, 11/28/2005

Warner, color, NR, 107 min. plus supplements, Dolby Digital 5.1, widescreen, Street: Dec. 6, $28.98; First Run: W, Aug. 2005, $80.3 mil.

The good ole boys are back, along with the denim-cutoffs-clad girl, the one-liners and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger that goes by the name of General Lee—and all are showcased in a series of featurettes produced by Terpsichore Movement. For starters, starlet Jessica Simpson discusses putting on those famous shorts in "Daisy Dukes: Short Short Shorts," a four-minute mockmentary showing the costume designers building a pair of shorty shorts with a little help from a Barbie doll. The restoration and destruction of the beloved Charger is explored in the five-minute "The General Lee Lives." And the four-minute "How to Launch a Muscle Car 175 Feet in 45 Seconds" is, well, exactly that. (It's a shame to see that car get smashed.) The longest of the mini-docs is the 15-minute "The Hazards of Dukes," which is a comical variation on a standard making-of—complete with the same kind of voiceover you'll find in the movie (and original TV show). Everybody from director Jay Chandrasekhar to actors to stunt guys to producers get the opportunity to make a joke. There also are a bunch of deleted scenes and bloopers, including unrated ones, and Simpson's music video for "These Boots Were Made for Walking." It's a fun disc, but if we were to ask for one thing, it would be to see the original Bo, Luke and Daisy's take on the new movie.
