JULY 13 | This year's latest controversial documentary, Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism, has already been picked up for DVD release by New York-based Disinformation Co. through Ryko Distribution.
The company made the DVD available for online and retail purchase last week. The movie, which assails Murdoch media outlets such as Fox News Channel for biased and conservative journalism, generated a flurry of national press coverage after a media screening of the film July 12.
Disinformation recently released the DVD of Outfoxed filmmaker Robert Greenwald's Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War, which will get a subsequent theatrical release beginning Aug. 13.
About 100,000 copies of Uncovered have been sold through the Internet since November and another 20,000 units have been shipped through Ryko since the title was made available to retailers March 30.
Disinformation president Gary Baddeley said an additional 20,000 units have been ordered for shipment to retail.
Baddeley believes that with the media coverage last week and the sudden surge in interest in political and controversial documentaries, Outfoxed should sell "multiples" of that of Uncovered.
Outfoxed surged to the top one or two titles on Amazon.com as soon as it was announced and remained there for at least the first couple days.
Baddeley said Disinformation's next release will be a re-edited and longer version of a recent BBC documentary called Bush Family Fortune, to be available at retail on Sept. 28.
